NYFW: Helping Marc Jacobs Prepare for Showtime

I had the amazing opportunity to return to the Marc Jacobs International office to help the design team prepare for their New York Fashion Week runway show. The fashion industry was in full swing, and the whole city was buzzing with talk of the latest runway presentations.

I arrived to the SoHo office on Friday afternoon and immediately began work on the show garments. The styling department was already at work putting together show looks and there were many changes that needed to be made to the different designs. I worked on making alterations to show garments and made trips back and forth to the styling floor across the street and the showroom on the 9th floor. It was a lot of fun to observe model casting and fittings, and get to see the various creative designers, including Marc Jacobs himself give their input on the designs.

It’s hard to imagine how many clothing and accessory items go into the runway show, but the entire styling room floor was filled with racks of garments, and tables of neatly displayed shoes, colorful scarves, jewelry and bags.

A lot of what I did in preparation the days before the show was garment alterations. I enjoyed being able to work on the runway looks ahead of time, and getting an understanding of what changes are typically made to looks in the final days before a show.

When show day came around, it was really neat to see the backstage scene of Marc Jacobs. Fashion models, like Kendall Jenner, would sit around brightly lit mirrors to get their makeup and hair done. They each had their own rack with their garments hanging on them, perfectly steamed, and photos on the end of each rack showing how the style was supposed to be put together.

Once all the models were changed and lined up, the show was essentially ready to begin.    Because the backstage was all ready to go, I enjoyed watching the show from the audience perspective. The music was bumping and people were snapping photos and singing along to the soundtrack.

From where I was sitting I could see Marc Jacobs sitting front row, nodding his head in excitement and singing along to every word of the tracks. He is very passionate about what he does, and it is always really cool to see that first hand.

The show lasted around 8 minutes and before I knew it, it was over. The front row of bloggers and celebrities jumped up and ran off to the next big show. NYFW is truly one of a kind.

NYFW: Veronica Beard

I attended the Veronica Beard New York Fashion Week presentation last night and it was nothing less than enchanting. The venue was located in the charming neighborhood of Chelsea inside a very rustic open space. There were refreshments, an amazing song playlist, and awesome props and furniture to complement the line of clothing being displayed. Everyone was dressed to the nines and snapping photos right and left.

As far as the Fall 15 line itself, I thought everything about it was very versatile and wearable for the everyday fashionista. There was a wonderful mix of textures and prints that really complemented each other and made for super dynamic looks. Models wore ensembles that mixed softer silky fabrics and lace pieces with thicker woven wools, furs and heavy knits. The juxtaposition of textures and fabrics was brilliant and so cohesive.

You could see that the brand also incorporated the popular trend of the fur stole (pictured below) in many of their looks, I found this piece really adds some extra flare to layered styles. Simple, yet elegant, prints and pops of bright colors made the line that much more exciting.

After attending the presentation I am so excited for this Fall 15 line to be released.

Stay tuned for more NYFW updates!

Fall Colors in Firenze

Fall weather has arrived here in Florence and I am in love. The leaves are changing, the temperatures are cooler and the colors are beautiful. I picked up this gorgeous scarf at the market last weekend and thought it was perfect for this time of year. It’s cozy, colorful and the perfect piece to brighten up a neutral ensemble.

I purchased this black wrap dress from Nordstrom just before I left for Italy and it has already become one of my favorites. The dress is a great length, super soft and can be paired with anything! I’ve decided that wrap dresses are a perfect fall basic that every woman should have in her wardrobe. They’re an easy go-to outfit that can be mixed and matched with unlimited jackets and accessories.

As far as my life in Italy goes, I have enjoyed taking a small break from traveling and spent the last few weeks in Florence. I’ve already learned so much more about my city and neighborhood just wandering around and stopping in cafes and shops. I’ve tasted the most amazing hot chocolate in Florence, discovered some awesome leather shops and seen some views that cannot be beat.

My Italian adventure has felt like a dream so far, and I’m looking forward to all of the experiences yet to come.

Ciao for now!

A Transitional Fall Look

It is officially October and I have been anxiously waiting for some cooler weather here in Florence. By this time of year in the midwest I would already be in full sweater mode, but Italy continues to surprise me with 75 degree afternoons. Don’t get me wrong, I love warm weather, but there is something magical about fall fashion that I have been just too impatient for this year. With rain storms this week came some brisk temperatures though, so I decided to break out some of my favorite fall fashion pieces for the season. This outfit was created as a transitional look; I focused on layering some of my summer pieces with a few fall trends to make them more appropriate for the season.

For this look, I paired my favorite high-waisted jean shorts with a cropped tank, two very basic summer pieces I packed with me for my trip. I have been obsessed with the tall sock trend this year, so I was excited to finally incorporate a pair into my first fall outfit post. I added a cozy oversized knit cape to my look, along with my favorite black boots. A few key jewelry pieces were added for an extra pop of color and glam.

Looking forward to styling more fall ensembles!

Clad in Plaid

After a few months of a very busy schedule at school, and absolutely dreadful midwest weather, I have finally found time on a nice day to shoot an outfit post. For this outfit, I broke out a new pair of red plaid pants. These are a statement piece for sure, but what fun is life without a little risk in your fashion wardrobe, right?

When choosing what pieces to pair with my plaid pants, I was looking for more toned down items. I chose a black cropped sweater with a smaller knit pattern to complement the larger print on my pants.

For accessories, I chose gold pieces and a simple bag. I wore my timberland-esque wedge booties with the outfit for a contrast.

What I’m Wearing:

Sweater: black cropped – Urban Outfitters

Pants: red plaid – Forever 21

Booties: carmel and gold – Target

Bag: grey and gold – TJ Maxx

Bracelet: gold chain – Forever 21

Earrings: black and gold – Francesca’s
